Regupathy ridiculed District Collector Uma Maheswari, who organised ‘Makkalai Thedi Maavatta Nirvagam’ (District Administration Reaching out to People), a government function, in which she received petitions from the people. Regupathy had then called Uma Maheswari an AIADMK women wing secretary and reportedly spread it across the social media.

Based on the complaint by Sheik Diwan, 40, an advocate from Machuvadi in Pudukkottai, the Pudukkottai Town police registered a case. Sheik Diwan claimed that Regupathy has been spreading the false information across the social media to malign the reputation of the District Collector. He also claimed that Regupathy is behind the false propaganda and demanded action against him.

Based on his complaint, the police, who reportedly conducted an investigation, registered a case under four IPC Sections against Regupathy.
