“We had represented to the Transport Department to exempt us from quarterly tax payment and toll charges till September this year. We also sought extension of time for payment of insurance premium and EMI till September as we are already grappling with the loss suffered due to the lockdown. Several workers have also been rendered jobless,” federation president Murugan Venkatachalam said in a letter to the Chief Minister.

He said amid the loss suffered by the lorry owners, the State government wanted us to pay quarterly tax for a period when the vehicles were not operated due to the lockdown.
