TIRUVALLUR: Police on Wednesday registered cases against 25 people, including a former MLA, for allegedly assaulting two factory workers during a reinstatement protest.

Nearly, 178 workers of a car manufacturing company in Kadambathur were removed from their jobs four years ago.

The former employees organised repeated protests over the years demanding to be reinstated. However, over the past two days, a bunch of people gathered along with their families and continued to protest in front of the factory.

“All of a sudden some protesters attempted to lay siege to the factory and when some factory workers resisted they assaulted two of them,” police said.

Based on a complaint from the car unit, police arrested Kannan, a former MLA along with 20 other people. Investigations are on.
