The egg prices had nosedived to an all-time low of Rs 1.95 paisa per piece last week due to corona and bird flu scare. The lowest ever price led to an increase in consumption of eggs.

Eventually, more than 15 crore eggs, stagnated in Namakkal due to rumours on corona infection, were sold out due to low prices. Following an increase in consumption, the egg prices were fixed at Rs 2.25 paisa by the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) in Namakkal zone on Monday. More than 1,100 poultry farms produce around 3.5 crore eggs per day in Namakkal zone.

The egg prices hovered around Rs 4.50 paisa until last month. However, the rumours on social media that corona is transmitted through consumption of poultry led to drop in prices of both chicken and eggs.
