Efforts on to make Kurumbapatty Zoo a medium category facility

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden of state S Yuvaraj inspected the Kurumbapatty Zoological Park in Salem to initiate efforts to upgrade it into a medium category zoo.

Expanding the zoo area from 31.74 hectares to 80 hectares within the Kurumbapatty Reserve Forest was also discussed, said a statement on Sunday. Yuvaraj has instructed the field officials to submit suitable proposal to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for upgrading this park. 

Once upgraded, the zoo will have modernised enclosures, veterinary facilities, interpretation center, store room and pathways. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami allotted Rs 8 crore for it in state budget.
