DVAC officials arrest village welfare officer for accepting bribe

The accused was then arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

CHENGALPATTU: Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday arrested a rural welfare officer for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a woman in Chengalpattu.

The complainant Mathiyazhagi, a resident of Venangupattu in Sithamoor had approached the rural welfare officer to submit an application requesting her help to get an aid of Rs 50,000 for her two girl children under a government scheme. However, accused Pyari Begum refused to clear the application if Mathiyazhagi refused to pay a bribe of Rs 500.

Following this, Mathiyazhagi lodged a complaint with the DVAC unit in Chengalpattu who caught the accused red-handed while she was accepting the bribe.

The accused was then arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

DVAC officials have requested the public to contact them in the following numbers 9444072827 and 9498106163 to lodge complaints about anyone demanding a bribe.
