Drunk man held for making hoax call

Police on Wednesday arrested a 35-year-old man for making a hoax call to the police control room and warning that bombs will explode in a few places in Kuniamuthur.

The arrested man, identified as Peer Mohammed (35), had made the call to the control room in Chennai on Tuesday night. Police then traced the call to Coimbatore.

On receiving an alert from Chennai, a special team of police led by Kuniamuthur Inspector Ganesan found that Mohammed was a resident of Senthamil Nagar in Kuniamuthur. However, his phone number remained switched off and he went into hiding.

After a search, the police arrested the accused on Wednesday. Inquiries revealed that he made the bomb hoax call under the influence of alcohol. Police said Peer Muhammed made a similar hoax call a year ago.

He was booked on various sections, including for uttering offensive words and criminal intimidation. Police produced him before the Judicial Magistrate - VII and remanded him to judicial custody.
