In a statement, the CPM leader said that Jagadesh Kumar’s appointment has a political motive of saffronisation of education and to protect the interest of the educational institution and students his appointment should be immediately withdrawn.

“Such panels were appointed by the Governor based on the recommendations of the state Cabinet. Governor is a representative of the Centre. Governor who is the chancellor of the university did not have powers to act independently without the recommendation of the state government,” he said, alleging that Jagadesh Kumar has been accused of acting in a partisan manner in support of the BJP over the attack on the students and student’s union leaders of the JNU on January 5 this year.

“There has been a demand from the students and political parties to sack him. The state government should explain why it accepted the appointment of such a controversial person?” he said.
