COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Forest Department has warned of strict action against those involved in activities that cause disturbance to wild animals during New Year celebrations.

The department has issued notices to resorts located near forest areas asking them to avoid firing of crackers, high-decibel music, unauthorised entry into forest areas and any activity that may disturb the wild animals during New Year celebrations.

Special teams have been formed to monitor, and action will be taken against those flouting these restrictions, said an official. Similar restrictions have been imposed in Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) and Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) also.

Tourists will be allowed entry only between 7 am and 4 pm through the Sethumadai check post and between 6 am and 6 pm through the Aliyar check post to ATR. Adequate personnel have been deployed at vulnerable locations and check posts to ensure compliance.
