Doctors treat 2 women with complex brain aneurysms in Madurai

Through cutting-edge neurovascular technology and endovascular coiling of aneurysms, the doctors reduced the risk and recovery time of the surgery.

MADURAI: Two middle-aged women diagnosed with complex brain aneurysms in three different vessels underwent a successful single endovascular session at Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital in Madurai.

Through cutting-edge neurovascular technology and endovascular coiling of aneurysms, the doctors reduced the risk and recovery time of the surgery.

Currently, the two patients are recovering well with no complications. Dr Gowtham Kuncha, the consultant and interventional neurosurgeon said the patients had three aneurysms – balloon-like dilations in the deep locations of the brain which when ruptured could result in bleeding.

As surgical treatment is risky and time-consuming, we chose to treat all three aneurysms in a single session through an endovascular approach, he said.
