Tamil Nadu's main opposition DMK Party has announced a massive protest rally against India's new citizenship law.

Several hundred supporters are expected to attend the rally in Chennai on Monday.

Reports say the DMK's leader MK Stalin has invited 98 organisations - including his political allies in the state - to participate in the demonstration.

Organisers say there is no word yet from the police on permission to hold the rally.

The DMK has been staging demonstrations across Tamil Nadu to oppose the new citizenship law, which allows non-Muslims from neighbouring Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to apply for citizenship in India.
