They filed a petition demanding action against the district collector and the SP, who detained them. DMK MLAs Periyannan Arasu (Pudukkottai), S Ragupathy (Thirumayam) and CV Meiyyanathan (Alangudi), whose names were listed in the official invite of the medical college inauguration by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy on June 9 were arrested and kept under custody until the Chief Minister had left, thus preventing them from participating in it.

This had irked the DMK party headquarters and the cadre had organised a protest on June 11.

DMK working president MK Stalin warned both the district administration and the police of severe legal action.

As per the instruction, the MLAs approached the Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday and filed a petition with the Magistrate Nagarajan and produced the supporting documents. The Magistrate who accepted the papers ordered for a hearing on June 20.
