Justice N Sathish Kumar before whom the plea moved by the MLA came up, granted anticipatory bail after directing him to pay Rs 50,000 to the Cancer Institute in Adyar.

Moorthy representing Madurai East Assembly constituency had submitted that the complainant Sankarapandi from the BJP was in the habit of spreading rumours against him on social media.

Hence, during a chance meeting that transpired on June 22, while he was distributing COVID-19 relief materials to people at Oomachikulam, he questioned him for spreading false messages on social media just because of political rivalry.

He further claimed that neither of them knew each other personally and on urging him to desist from spreading such false messages had walked away only to realise later that the said person had lodged a complaint against him on false grounds of intimidating with a footwear.

Apprehending that the Tallakulam police might have registered a case, he sought anticipatory bail.
