CHENNAI: The ruling DMK has called a meeting of its MPs on Sunday to discuss the party's floor strategy for the Parliament session beginning Monday.

A release issued by DMK general secretary Duraimurugan on Saturday said the meeting of DMK Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs will take place at the Murasoli Maran Hall in the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam at 10:30 am on Sunday, and the agenda of the meeting is the ensuing session of Parliament.

The DMK, which has been strongly voicing its concerns over the linguistic policy and the proposed delimitation exercise to be reportedly undertaken by the delimitation commission later next year, is expected to vociferously raise them in both Houses. Also, the delay in the allocation of MNREGs funds due to the state from the Union government and the denial of funds meant for flood relief and Samagraha Siksha scheme over the non-acceptance of the National Education Policy would be raised by the DMK MPs.

With the opposition, including the fledgling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by actor Vijay, criticising the performance of the DMK MPs in Parliament, more so against the backdrop of the party raising the delimitation issue, the DMK could grab this opportunity to silence critics.

Meanwhile, the DMK high command announced statewide meetings to be held on Wednesday, to condemn the Union government and educate the people on delimitation and language imposition issues. In a notification published in the party organ 'Murasoli' Saturday, the DMK advised its functionaries to involve party MPs and MLAs in the meetings against the BJP-led central government.

As per Murasoli, Chief Minister and party president MK Stalin will preside over the condemnation meeting in Tiruvallur, while party general secretary Duraimurugan will address the meeting at Gudiyatham. Ministers and senior functionaries of the party will attend meetings in all party districts.
