DMK, AIADMK councillors spar in Vellore, Commissioner intervenes

The issue started when AIADMK councilor Ezhilarasan demanded to know when the new Vellore bus stand initiated by former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would become operational.

VELLORE: Heated arguments were witnessed between the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK over the new Vellore bus stand being brought into use, at a meeting of the corporation council on Tuesday. Mayor Sujatha Anandakumar was in the chair along with Deputy Mayor Sunil Kumar and Commissioner S Ashok Kumar. The issue started when AIADMK councilor Ezhilarasan demanded to know when the new Vellore bus stand initiated by former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would become operational. Immediately Deputy Mayor Sunil Kumar intervened and said that the delay was caused by the AIADMK contractor by not finishing the work on time. Meanwhile, when a corporation staff tasked with handing the mike to members wanting to speak, tried to take the mike out of Ezhilarasan’s hand it lead to heated arguments between the councilor and the staff. Commissioner S Ashok Kumar cooled tempers by announcing that streetlights were planned at the rate of 1000 per zone for all four corporation zones. He also said that there was a proposal to manufacture fertilizer out of chicken waste.
