CHENNAI: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman has urged the State government to grant house-site pattas to residents of Shastri Nagar in Chennai's Velachery, who have been living there for over 50 years.

In a statement, Seeman condemned the DMK government for denying house pattas to the people of Shastri Nagar despite their decades-long struggle.

He pointed out that residents of nearby Ambedkar Nagar in Velachery were earlier provided house site pattas through a monthly instalment scheme, and questioned why similar benefits are being denied to Shastri Nagar residents.

Seeman alleged that the government's refusal amounts to discrimination and injustice. He criticised the State for allegedly facilitating easy access to identity documents and housing for people from other states, while denying basic land rights to native Tamil families who have lived in the area for generations.

He accused the government of using police intimidation by branding residents as encroachers and attempting to evict them from their long-established homes.

Seeman questioned whether this approach reflected the DMK's claim to safeguard Tamil rights and dignity.

Urging the State to act without delay, Seeman reiterated that house site pattas must be granted immediately to all eligible Shastri Nagar residents who have lived there for over five decades.
