District Food Safety Officer seals shop for selling gutkha in Nellai

According to sources, the shopkeeper identified as Ramkumar (36) already faced action for a similar crime of illegally selling gutkha from his shop and the Food Safety authorities imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

MADURAI: A shop found selling gutkha products illegally near Moondradaippu in Tirunelveli was locked and sealed by a team led by District Food Safety Officer R Sasi Deepa in the presence of police personnel on Saturday.

According to sources, the shopkeeper identified as Ramkumar (36) already faced action for a similar crime of illegally selling gutkha from his shop and the Food Safety authorities imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

However, the shopkeeper was found repeatedly indulging in such unlawful acts and hence the shop was sealed as per the direction of the Commissioner of Food Safety, Chennai. After having sealed the shop, the shopkeeper was also fined Rs 10,000, sources said.
