Depressed young widow kills two daughters, immolates self in Nagercoil

Unable to bear the death of her husband a year ago and run her family, a 29-year-old woman committed suicide by self-immolation after killing her two girl children with overdose of sleeping pills in Kanniyakumari district early on Monday.

migrator

The deceased have been identified as Rasi, wife of late Ranjith Kumar and her children- Akshaya (5) and Anushya (3) residing at a house in Nesavalar Colony near Nesamony Nagar in Nagercoil.

Nesamony Nagar police investigations revealed that Rasi, who resided along with her father-in-law and mother-in-law, took this extreme decision because she was depressed over the death of her husband a year ago in an accident and unable to run her family.

Rasi gave her two children excessive sleeping tablets, moments before settling herself ablaze. The two ill-fated children died due to overdose and a varnish thinner bottle was found beside the charred body of Rasi.

While the two children were found lying dead on a cot, the partially charred body of their mother was found inside the bathroom.

Police found a suicide note saying that their souls wanted to be united with that of her husband soon and hence decided to give up their lives. Based on a complaint from the mother-in-law of Rasi, police have filed a case under Sections 302 of IPC and 174 of CrPC, sources said.
