Delta farmers dejected

The farmers from the Cauvery delta on Saturday expressed their dissatisfaction over the Union Budget as there was no mention of their long-pending demand for the agri loan waiver, profitable price for the agri products and interlinking of rivers and at the same time, they have welcomed the special package for the women farmers.

According to P Ayyakannu, state president of the Desiya Thennindiya Nadhigal Inaippu Sangam, the politicians, including the Prime Minister, during the election campaign, call the farmers as the backbone of India but after the election they consider them as the beggars. “The Prime Minister assured us to provide two times profitable price for the agri produces and interlinking of rivers but no word has been mentioned in the budget. We do not want two time profitable income but grant us at least single profitable price,” Ayyakannu said.

Ayyakannu said that the farmers across the nation have been demanding individual insurance and scrapping of regulation of insurance claim for crops damaged more than 33 per cent.
