School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan has said decision on public exams for classes 10,11 and 12 will be taken by the end of December.

With schools locked for seven months enforced by coronavirus pandemic, online classes are in progress.

Since covering whole syllabus online would be cumbersome both for students and teachers, syllabus has been pared by 40%.

Board exams would be conducted with that remaining 60% of the syllabus.

Previously the government mulled on reopening schools for classes 9 to 12 from November 16.

Following overwhelming apprehensions aired by parents in the consultative meeting, the decision was stalled.
