CHENNAI: MDMK general secretary Vaiko has requested the Tamil Nadu government to abandon the app-based method used for assessing crop damage caused by recent floods and heavy rains.

Under this system, officials must upload field details, survey numbers and geo-tagged photographs, which are then verified by multiple authorities before approval, he pointed out, referring to practical difficulties in its implementation.

Vaiko pointed out that this procedure has created serious issues, especially in the Cauvery delta districts.

Farmers cultivating on temple lands, leased lands, and those without updated patta, or under multiple subdivisions under a single survey number, are likely to be excluded from compensation, he said.
