CHENNAI: CPM Polit Bureau member K Balakrishnan on Wednesday hailed his party colleague and Madurai MP Su Venkatesan's Veerayuga Nayagan Velpari as a historic Tamil novel that has achieved a Himalayan literary feat.

In a statement, he said the novel's unparalleled achievement lay in crossing over one lakh copies within a short period and in significantly expanding its reader base, marking a major cultural accomplishment.

Drawing from the essence of Sangam literature, the novel stands apart from conventional historical works that glorify crowned monarchs. Instead, it brings out the distinctive features of early tribal life and celebrates human bonds.

Its narrative, which brings together leaders of various groups to stand against monarchical domination and the greed for accumulation of wealth, is commendable, he said.

Balakrishnan noted that this core of classical Tamil literature has now been translated into Malayalam and expressed happiness that the book would reach Malayalam readers. He wished the author that the book reach several languages and lakhs of new readers.
