“Will deliver the goods for people, who had confidence in my abilities,” said a woman of Kansapuram near Srivilliputhur, Virudhunagar district with a sense of jubilation on Thursday. Saraswathi, the victorious candidate, bagged a total of 1,113 votes to her credit and achieved the much awaited victory with a margin of 213 votes, sources said. A confident Saraswathi said she developed a passion to render public service while serving in the panchayat. Since, Saraswathi was sure of winning the elections, she gave up her job in the panchayat and contested for the post of president to Kansapuram village. When the State Election Commission issued notifications for the conduct of polls to local bodies in Tamil Nadu in 2016, Saraswathi said that she had filed nomination to contest for the post of president to the village panchayat.
