COIMBATORE: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader KA Sengottaiyan on Thursday said several key AIADMK functionaries are expected to join the Vijay-led party ahead of the Assembly polls.

Speaking to the media, after paying floral tributes to the portrait of ‘Veeramangai’ Velu Nachiyar, the valorous queen of Sivaganga, on her death anniversary at the party office in Gobichettipalayam in Erode, Sengottaiyan said several key AIADMK functionaries are likely to switch over to TVK.

“No force could prevent actor-politician Vijay from assuming power with the support of people,” he said.

On alliance prospects, Sengottaiyan said the party would abide by whatever decision the leadership took. “We will have to wait and see which party joins the coalition,” he said.

He played it safe when asked about the possibility of expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam joining TVK's alliance. He refused to openly endorse the reports, suggesting that most district secretaries aligned with the former Chief Minister favoured joining TVK, and said the final decision rests with O Panneerselvam alone.

Even though the BJP is reportedly keen on bringing leaders like O Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran into the NDA fold to strengthen its southern base, several functionaries of these parties have expressed their intent to explore an alliance with the fledgling TVK.
