COIMBATORE: Relatives of a pregnant woman, who died during treatment, staged a protest refusing to receive her body, alleging medical negligence at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Wednesday.

The deceased, Sangeetha (32), wife of a daily wager Annadurai (38), from Ammankulam, was admitted to CMCH on December 22 after she developed sudden health complications.

"As the condition of the mother and foetus was critical, doctors suggested an emergency surgery to save the woman’s life. During surgery, the six-month-old foetus was removed, but died already, while the woman continued to receive treatment," police said.

Another surgery was done on the woman two days ago due to further complications. Unfortunately, Sangeetha died despite treatment on Tuesday night.
