CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday announced that the flyover in Coimbatore will be named after Bharat Ratna awardee C Subramaniam, former Union Minister and Governor, in recognition of his enduring contributions to the nation.

Making the announcement in a social media post, the Chief Minister said that honouring leaders who earned the goodwill of the people and served the country selflessly, despite differences in political ideologies, was a mark of democratic maturity.

He described C Subramaniam as a towering statesman whose role as Union Minister laid the foundation for the Green Revolution, which helped free the country from chronic food shortages and ensured food security for millions.

Stalin noted that the decision was taken in response to a request made by Dr B K Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, who had urged the government to perpetuate the legacy of the veteran leader. Accepting the appeal, the State government has decided to name the flyover stretching from Aathupalam to the Ukkadam junction along Oppanakkara Street in Coimbatore as the ‘C Subramaniam Flyover’.
