COIMBATORE: Five members of a family were killed after the car they were travelling rammed into a stationed water tanker on the Pollachi–Udumalpet stretch of National Highway 83 in Coimbatore district on Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Kanagaraj, Poorani, Narmatha, Aarthi and Raman, all residents of Madukkarai. They were heading home from Palani in a car, when it crashed into the rear of a water tanker lorry that had been parked along the roadside for watering plants in the highway's central median near Nallampalli Pirivu at around 1pm.
On receiving information, the Gomangalam police led by Allatipalli Pavan Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore rushed to the accident site and supervised the investigation. The bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Pollachi for post-mortem examination.
The Gomangalam Police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
