COIMBATORE: A group of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadre confronted the party’s Mettur constituency candidate, K Selvam, in Kolathur near Salem, upset over his decision to close down the party office outside the Kolathur Panchayat Union office.

The confrontation took place when Selvam visited Kolathur to meet party functionaries and mobilise support.

The cadre also accused Selvam of irregularities in the advance booking of tickets for the yet-to-be-released Vijay starrer film Jana Nayagan, alleging that tickets initially priced at Rs 200 were later sold at significantly higher rates.

The situation escalated into an altercation. Selvam, who appeared upset, later left the spot in a huff.

A cross-section of party members further expressed dissatisfaction with Selvam’s candidature, stating that they were unhappy with his selection for the Mettur constituency and demanded his replacement to improve the party’s electoral prospects.

Rejecting the allegations, Selvam termed the charges as baseless and blamed rival political elements for instigating the protest.

“When the film itself has not been released, claims of ticket overpricing are unfounded,” he said. He also said that he continued his outreach efforts by meeting party functionaries in the area before leaving the locality.
