CHENNAI: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecast rain for Western ghats and coastal districts of Tamil Nadu from September 21 due to change in westerly wind direction. However, the rainfall activity is likely to take a break from next week until an atmospheric circulation is formed in the TN coastal region.
"As the cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, the rainfall activity has decreased in Tamil Nadu since last week. Now, due to to change in westerly wind direction speed, the coastal districts - including Chennai, Cuddalore, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Western ghats (Nilgiris, Kanyakumari, Dindigul, Virudhunagar) and adjoining districts of TN is likely to get light to moderate rain from Wednesday, " said a senior RMC.
Also, other isolated areas in the state are expected to receive rain during the evening hours. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city has decreased by two or three degree Celsius.
The weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam are 32 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius respectively.
For other districts, the temperature continues to record 36 - 37 degree Celsius, and is more likely to go up by one or two degrees Celsius than normal.
According to RMC, during the last 24 hours, the highest amount of rainfall was recorded in Chengalpattu, Thoothukudi, Kancheepuram, Nilgiris 3 cm each, Thiruvallur 2 cm, Ranipet, Vellore, Kanyakumari 1 cm each.
