CHENNAI: Accepting the demand raised by VCK MLA Jothimani for providing vehicles to MLAs, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced that the government would provide vehicles to all MLAs.

Along with this, the Chief Minister announced that the government would provide Rs 75,000 per month towards the driver's salary, fuel and maintenance charges.

"Each MLA needs an assistant to carry out public work without hurdles. Owing to this, a monthly personal assistance allowance of Rs 25,000 will be provided to all MLAs," the Chief Minister said.

Explaining the reasons behind the announcements, Vijay said the facilities would enable MLAs to avoid depending on others for their travel needs.

"This will pave the way for hassle-free travel for MLAs to redress people's grievances. It will help reduce the monthly expenses of MLAs and enable corruption-free and transparent governance for the common people," the Chief Minister said.

Recalling the pledge made at the introductory meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidates, the Chief Minister and TVK chief said in the Assembly that the TVK MLAs were working with transparency and without corruption as per the pledge.

"The TVK-led government is also functioning under the principle of 'Administration for the People – On the Path of Integrity'," the Chief Minister said.
