CHENNAI: Paying rich tributes to Puratchi Kavignar (revolutionary poet) Bharathidasan, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday announced that the Tamil week celebration would be organised from April 29 to May 5 on account of the poet’s birthday anniversary.

Making a statement under rule 110 during the Zero Hour in the Assembly, Stalin waxed eloquently about the contribution of Bharatidasan to Tamil literature and Tamil race and said that on account of the birthday of Bharatidasan, one of the sons of mother Tamil, Tamil week celebrations would be organised across the State from April 29 to May 5 with events held in celebration of the Tamil language and the poet's contribution to the language.

Debate and poetry competitions centred on the theme "everything for everyone" would be held in all districts with the participation of Tamil scholars and young poets. A "Bharatidasan young creator" award would be distributed to a young poet/writer excelling in the Tamil language, and conferences would be held on the works of eminent Tamil writers. Elocution, essay writing and poetry competitions would be held in schools to promote Tamil pride among the students and cultural events centred on Tamil music, dance and traditional arts would be organised throughout the state to celebrate the revolutionary's poet's birthday as Tamil week, the Chief Minister announced, describing it as another good opportunity to demonstrate the pride of Tamil language to the world.

"Let us read Bharathidasan's poems daily, popularise his ideas and take Tamil language to the next generation," the CM proclaimed in the House, which received it with loud applause.
