CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday announced the construction of one lakh new houses at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam housing scheme, stating that two lakh houses have already been completed.

Replying to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, moved by DMK MLA I Paranthamen, Stalin reflected on the government’s four-year tenure and said fulfilling electoral promises had been his foremost concern when the DMK assumed office.

With the five-year term nearing completion, the Chief Minister said he was “very happy” that people were satisfied with the government’s performance. He added that Dravidian Model governance had ensured Tamil Nadu’s growth and prominence.

Stalin said the Dravidian Model 2.0 government would surpass the achievements of the current term, noting that he had lived and worked for the people over the past five years, designing schemes focused on inclusive development.

Under the Chief Minister’s Rural Road Infrastructure Scheme, 2,200 km of roads will be renovated at a cost of Rs 1,088 crore. So far, 20,484 km of roads have been upgraded at Rs 8,911 crore.

On social security, Stalin said 33.60 lakh beneficiaries currently receive old-age pensions. An additional 1.80 lakh beneficiaries will be included from next month, with the inauguration scheduled for February 4.
