TIRUCHY: The student from Chidambaram who was pursuing medical studies in Russia and who was injured after being involved in the ongoing war against Ukraine, would be brought to India soon, said Tiruchy MP Durai Vaiko on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters here, Durai Vaiko said, Kishore Saravanan, a student from Chidambaram, went to study medicine in Russia, but unfortunately, he was misguided and lured into taking part in the Russia-Ukraine war with the false promise of getting him citizenship. Kishore Saravanan, unfortunately, sustained injuries during the war, and he was hospitalised for treatment.

“Kishore Saravanan’s parents approached me with a request to rescue him, and so I have initiated the steps to bring him back to India,” Durai Vaiko said.

As a part of the initiation, Durai Vaiko got the support of as many as 64 MPs from 15 parties and sent a representation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“After the initiation, Kishore Saravanan was presented before the defence court and was released. Now he is set for a homecoming to India”, Durai Vaiko said.

“As a result of these continuous efforts, Kishore has now been rescued from the war front and allowed to resume his studies in a medical college in Russia. After the formal exchange of academic documents is completed, he will return to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Durai Vaiko also appealed to the Union government to take urgent steps to rescue several students from other States who are still stranded in the war zone.

During the press meet, Kishore’s parents, Saravanan and Bama, broke down in tears and thanked Durai Vaiko by falling at his feet. The parents of the other three youths also expressed their gratitude for helping secure their children’s release.
