Central team to study Thoothukudi fossils

THOOTHUKUDI: A team of officials from the central biological department arrived for a field inspection at Pattinamaruthur near Thoothukudi on Monday, as part of preliminary studies on marine fossils found in the region.

The scientists’ team from the Kolkata-based biological department arrived in Thoothukudi by air to conduct initial field studies on marine fossils reported from Pattinamaruthur, Panaiyur, and Kayalpattinam in the Thoothukudi district.

The team will continue field inspections on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rajesh Selvarathi, an archaeology enthusiast from Thoothukudi, said the scientists would examine marine fossil remains that have already been identified and documented.
