CHENNAI: While welcoming the breakfast scheme that was launched today, PMK Founder S Ramadoss on Thursday urged the State government to expand the scheme to all the government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu.
Taking to Twitter, Ramadoss said: "The scheme is a good beginning as it feeds the students who come to schools in search of knowledge. We succeeded in bringing all the students above five years and now the breakfast scheme will help retain the students. The scheme should be gradually expanded to all the government and government-aided schools."
The scheme of providing free breakfast for primary school students was inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin in Madurai. Initially, the scheme will be implemented in 1,545 government schools in the State and the government assured that the scheme will be expanded across the State. The government had announced to provide "upma", "kichadi" and "pongal" to students and Ramadoss urged to add pulses in the breakfast in a phased manner to increase the nutritional value of the food.
