BJP opts out of March 5 AFT Mills stir

BJP Puducherry unit president V Saminathan, MLA, on Monday said that the party will not take part in the agitation called by the trade unions here on March 5 to press the Centre not to close down the AFT Mill and make the three textile mills operational.

Saminathan in a statement said that the Congress government had failed to initiate any action to run the sick mills here during the last four years and the present agitation of Chief Minister V Narayanasamy along with the Trade unions was to put the blame on the Union government. This need to be condemned strongly, he said.

The BJP was time and again demanding that the mills be renovated and made operational, he said, adding that now after closing down all the mills in Puducherry, the Chief Minister is enacting a ‘drama’ in view of the Assembly election due next year.

Saminathan wondered what happened to the Vijayan Committee report constituted to go into all the aspects of the mills here. There was no all-party meeting to chalk out the trade union agitation and as such this is to ‘hoodwink’ the people,he charged.
