Bill tabled to constitute urban development authorities for four corporations

The state government on Friday tabled a Bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act of 1974 to constitute urban development authorities for Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Hosur corporations.

CHENNAI: The state government on Friday tabled a Bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act of 1974 to constitute urban development authorities for Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Hosur corporations.According to the Amendment Act titled the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning (Second Amendment) Act, 2022, the urban development authority will have eight members, including a chairman, vice-chairman, three government officers, an MLA, a representative of trade and industry, Commissioner of Municipal Administration and representatives of local authorities. The urban development authority will execute several works such as carrying out survey of the urban planning area and preparing reports, devising a master plan or a new town development plan or a detailed development plan, preparing existing land use map and so on. The urban planning authority will also consult and collaborate with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to deal with public services. The urban development authority will be given statutory status through the Act.
