Virudhunagar: Biker dies after ramming truck, lorry mows down onlooker, man on lorry too killed in impact

CHENNAI: Three men were killed in two subsequent accidents that occurred at Poosaripatti in Virudhunagar on Tuesday night.

The deceased victims have been identified as M Selvam (36), of Sivanthipuram, Aathumedu in Virudhunagar, Vinoth (36), of Inam Reddiapatti village, in Tiruchy, and S Velmurugan (43), of Pandavarmangalam in Kovilpatti, Thoothukudi district, sources said.

The accident occurred at around 11.45 pm when Selvam, travelling on his bike, rammed into the rear end of a stationary cement-laden truck.

In the impact, he suffered multiple injuries to his head, hand, and leg and died on the spot.

Subsequently, Vinoth, the other victim, travelling in a van, stopped the vehicle and walked down to the accident site to take a glimpse of it.

Unfortunately, another speeding truck rammed Vinoth from behind leaving him dead.

The other victim Velmurugan was travelling in the speeding truck that hit Vinoth.

The truck driver Ramesh Karthick, from Kovilpatti, had driven the truck in a rash and negligent manner, sources said. The driver suffered injuries.

Based on a complaint lodged by S Roja (29), wife of deceased Selvam, Vachakarapatti police filed a case against the truck drivers K Eswaran of Kalligudi, Virudhunagar district and V Ramesh Karthick of Kovilpatti under Sections 281 and 106 (1) of BNS, sources said.
