On hearing unusual noise coming from the inside of a temple at Sivaram Nagar near Sungam, a group of public rushed to the spot and found burglars trying to break the ‘hundial’.
Seeing the public, the burglars took to their heels. However, one among the crowd, Krishnamurthy (40) got hold of one of the thieves, Rudran (26) from Sowripalayam area.
“The burglar pulled out a knife and stabbed Krishnamurthy on his chest. He then swooned on the spot by bleeding profusely,” police said. The public then caught the thief after a chase and thrashed him black and blue, before handing him over to police.
Enquiries revealed that the two burglars had stolen cash by breaking the ‘hundial’ of another temple and was making an attempt to rob this one when one of them was caught by the public. There were several cases of thefts against Rudran. The one who escaped has been identified as Sakthy and a search is on to nab him.
The severely injured Krishnamurthy was admitted in the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Further investigation is on.
