AU’s new internship program on TN’s language models to fall under CM’s research grant

The objective is to resolve the State’s socioeconomic challenges, bringing favourable outcomes (products, patents) for TN.

Chennai: Anna University has introduced a unique internship programme titled, ‘Large Language Models for Tamil and Tamil Text to Vision’, for students under Chief Minister Research Grant (CMRG) starting from January.

The objective is to resolve the State’s socioeconomic challenges, bringing favourable outcomes (products, patents) for TN. The target is faculty and PG students from State-run universities and government colleges.

The CMRG is administered by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), under Higher Education Department and Anna University. The three-month internship will be provided by Centre for Development of Tamil in Engineering and Technology of Anna University to final year BE and BTech students of the institution. Last date for registration is on December 30.

The internship will cover Large Language Models of Tamil (LLM-T), which includes handling archaic and poetic forms, hallucination reduction in heritage texts, world-level Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for ancient Tamil scripts, language model-based word correction and word boundary detection using linguistic context.

The training programme will be free of cost for the students. However, there will not be any stipend.
