Another farmer fatally hit by harvester machine

The victim Balu, a resident of Vinayagar Koil Street in Chinnamandali village was working at a farm in Madhura Kandigai on Tuesday.

TIRUVALLUR: A 66-year-old farm worker died in a freak accident when a vehicle used to harvest crops backed into the tractor he was sitting on, in Tiruvallur on Tuesday. This is second such accident in Tiruvallur within a week. The victim Balu, a resident of Vinayagar Koil Street in Chinnamandali village was working at a farm in Madhura Kandigai on Tuesday. He was sitting atop a tractor and overseeing the crops being harvested when a vehicle used for crop harvesting hit the tractor from behind. “Balu suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot,” police said. Police registered a case and sent the body for autopsy to Tiruvallur GMCH. The police also arrested Ramkumar, 30, driver of the harvesting vehicle. On Thursday last, in a similar accident a 57-year-old farm worker Rajagopal died.
