Anna University in fresh row over question paper repeat

After the revaluation scam, Anna University seems to be embroiled in another controversy with regards to the mechanical engineering question paper, as it is almost a replica of last year’s paper.

Despite the expert committee, comprising senior professors and academicians being in place for preparing question papers, more than 90 marks questions from last year were repeated in the engineering paper this year.

Anna University recently conducted BE and B Tech degree examination for November-December 2018. Students studying Mechanical Engineering from more than 500 colleges affiliated to the university appeared for the exams.

The students were bewildered to find that the first question in the Process Panning and Cost Estimation paper was same as that on the paper of 2017. Similarly, in part-A, five questions (two marks each), were similar to those that appeared in 2017. Likewise, in Part-B, questions which contained 13 marks, were also repeated. Another set of five questions was also a repeat.

While comparing this year’s paper with 2017, three 16 marks question, one twelve-mark question, one eight-mark question and one ten-mark question was found to have been repeated.

Admitting to the error, Anna University sources told DT Next that students had already raised the issue with the management. “The management might conduct re-exam if required,” a senior staff member said. He added that the varsity will take up the matter with the people responsible for preparing the question paper. According to the staff, as per rules, the expert committee should ensure that previous year’s questions are not repeated in the current year.
