CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin’s confidant ‘Anbagam’ Kalai has been likely to be appointed organising secretary of the ruling DMK.

Information trickling out of the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam suggests that the DMK leadership has rewarded Stalin’s long-time friend and confidant Kalai by appointing his as organising secretary, replacing former Rajya Sabha MP RS Bharathi, who is understood to have been accommodated as the member of the party’s executive committee. An official announcement from the party is yet to be made.

New DMK dist secs

Meanwhile, the DMK has accommodated at least half a dozen new faces as party district secretaries. While secretaries of close to 65 of the 72 party districts have been elected unopposed, uncertainty remains in a half a dozen other districts. DMK sources privy to the development disclosed that Thalapathy Murugesan (Coimbatore south), Ravi Annadurai (Coimbatore north), Madhura Senthil (Namakkal west), ‘Bargur’ Mathialagan (Krishnagiri east) and Chandran (Tiruvallur west) were learnt to be among the ‘freshers’ cherry-picked to helm the party districts.

Significant among the appointments is the likely elevation of former AIADMK minister cum AMMK leader turned Arivalaym loyalist Palaniappan as the secretary of Dharmapuri west party district, replacing Inbasekaran.

The party high command is believed to have left most incumbent district secretaries, especially those holding ministerial responsibilities undisturbed.
