Dhinakaran's AMMK party to abstain from Erode East by-poll

He also announced that AMMK has not been allotted the cooker symbol by the Election Commission in the by-election

CHENNAI: AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran on Tuesday decided not to contest in the Erode East by-poll claiming that the Election Commission did not allot the 'Pressure Cooker' symbol, which was used by the party in the earlier elections.

The party approached the authorities on January 27 and 31, seeking the party symbol.

Since the EC had communicated that it would not allot 'Pressure Cooker' symbol to the party for the by-poll, it has decided to abstain from contesting the poll.

The decision was taken based on the advice of the senior party functionaries, keeping the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in mind, said Dhinakaran in a statement.
