AIADMK-BJP tie-up opportunistic, says CPI's Mutharasan

CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan on Tuesday questioned the double standards of AIADMK leaders for aligning with the BJP after criticising the Central government for acting against the interests of Tamil Nadu.

Pointing out to Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai’s outburst against the BJP-led Centre in the Parliament, the CPI leader said, “He then blamed the Centre of acting against the interests of TN. But, the AIADMK has now forged an alliance with the BJP. The people are angry with both these parties. The PMK has also joined them. Theirs is an opportunistic alliance, while ours is based on principles.”

“Our alliance partners have gathered on the same platform to defend the interests of Tamil Nadu and promote secularism.”

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing on his poll promise to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the account of every individual by bringing back the black money stashed abroad, Mutharasan said that GST and demonetisation has taken a toll on the economy of TN.

“The economy of India and Tamil Nadu in particular has been ruined due to implementation of GST and demonetiSation. People are upset with Modi for such measures,” he added.

Stating that a war between India and Pakistan may lead to both countries suffering severe destruction, the CPI leader said the BJP should not attempt to gain political mileage out of the Airforce attack on terror camps in the neighbouring country.

“The vote bank of the BJP will not improve due to this attack. Modi is desperately searching for a constituency where he could contest,” said Mutharasan.
