DT Next reported on Tuesday that DMK was holding negotiations to woo Lakshmanan who has been sulking over his being sidelined in the ruling party. Lakshmanan was disgruntled over the party high command overlooking him in the appointment of Villupuram district secretary at the behest of Law Minister CVe Shanmugam.

Speaking to reporters after joining the DMK, Lakshmanan said the DMK was a party which protects Tamil Nadu’s rights and welfare. Stating that there was a need to have a strong government in the state, he said that he had joined DMK to work under an able leader.

Lakshmanan, who was first among the district secretaries to support Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam when he began his “dharmayudham” lost his district secretary post to Shanmugam in December 2018. Lakshmanan was understood to have met OPS a few days ago before deciding to defect.
