CHENNAI: Actor and Dravidian ideology’s sympathiser Sathyaraj’s daughter Divya joined the DMK here on Sunday.

A noted nutritionist, Divya, met Chief Minister MK Stalin at DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, and formally joined the party.

Talking to media persons after joining the party, Divya said, “It has been my desire to take up politics since college days. I chose DMK to serve the people and not for posts or positions. Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) has been my inspiration for a long time.”

When asked about her taking the plunge while her actor-father has abstained from formal politics to date, Divya said, “Only I am interested in taking the plunge, not my father.” Attributing her choice of party to the secular credentials of the DMK, Divya Sathyaraj said that the DMK was a party for people of all religions and so she chose it.

A self-proclaimed supporter of the Dravidian movement and a one-time die-hard fan of matinee idol MGR, Sathyaraj has been sharing the dais more frequently in the last few years with the DMK top brass, mainly Stalin, even on DMK platforms, espousing the cause of the Dravidian movement and the principles of Periyar EV Ramasamy.
