Activist claims threat from illegal sand miners, seeks protection

A social activist on Monday sought police protection saying he has received threats after he submitted a memorandum to the district administration against alleged illegal sand mining and brick kiln operations in Thadagam area here.

Rangaraj, a resident of Chinna Thadagam, said he submitted a petition in the District Collectorate stating that the miners and brickklin owners had issued threats to him and sought protection.

In the memorandum to the District Collector last month, the activist had sought action against alleged illegal sand mining and the brickkilns, claiming these activities resulted in the loss of natural resources, affecting agriculture in five villages in the Thadagam area.
