Around 12,500 persons were tested positive for COVID in the district and proper treatment ensured that almost all of the them recovered. Since educational institutions, which remain closed since lockdown, are about to be reopened, COVID Care Centres and fever camps have been reduced in phased manner. Efforts are under way to shift those quarantined in care centres to government hospitals and other recognised hospitals.

“The health staff have been engaged in ensuring adequate oxygen cylinders in hospitals with additional beds,” the Collector told reporters. Earlier, the Collector took part in a programme organised by the Department of Health at Primary Health Centre in Threspuram, Thoothukudi, where he distributed deworming tablets to students. Children from the age of one year to 19 years would be given tablets for deworming.

Apart from providing tablets, students would be sensitised on the importance of deworming. If any of children missed taking the tablet, health department would take such tablets to their doorsteps to ensure that all under this age group were covered.
