9 dist courts to resume physical hearings

The administrative committee of the Madras High Court while allowing the staggered opening of the subordinate courts in the State has allowed nine district headquarters- Dharampuri, Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tiruvarur, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Karur and Sivaganga to initiate measures for physical court hearings.

The guidelines issued said the physical open court hearings should be taken in a limited and restricted manner with the strict observance of allowing a maximum of five lawyers including state counsel at a time. The advisory held that no other litigant or any other person should be permitted to enter the court, except such lawyers whose cases are listed. The presiding officers of other districts have been sought to continue through video conferencing with approximately 15 to 20 cases per day. It also held limited staff should be allowed on rotation basis as per shifts by Principal judges and that lawyers above 65 years should avail video- conferencing facility.
